The Salt Lake City Public Library celebrated 120 years of service with a press and community event. At the event, Mayor Jackie Biskupski proclaimed February 14th, 2018, as Salt Lake City Public Library Day and was joined by Library Executive Director Peter Bromberg and Salt Lake City Council Member Chris Wharton. The event concluded with a performance of “Happy Birthday” sung by Librarian Cherie Willis, followed by the presentation of a cake with 120 candles to mark the occasion.
Began, on February 14, 1898, with 11,910 volumes on the top floor of the City and County Building, The City Library has been a constant presence for the educational and cultural needs of Salt Lake City's residents. The library system now houses more than 750,000 items across 8 branches, including technology such as 3D printers, laptop computers, and WiFi hotspots.
